Restumping

Despite my best intentions I've been slack with this blog lark. Heaps has happened since the last entry, and apparently if you post a picture you would otherwise have had to write a thousand words (maybe more) to describe the scene in the picture. Or something like that.

So fuelled by a black pudding feast from around the corner, here are some pictures.

Firstly the floors have been lifted. This was required because the house sits so low to the ground and there's no access.

Front & middle bedroom...

Hallway & study...

Lounge room...

For a while there the house was sitting up on car jacks...

And finally, after around three weeks of toil (not by us, mind), the new bearers were installed and the new concrete stumps were set...

Here is the new bearer at the front. That's a cicada case on the wall...I hadn't seen one of these since we lived in Townsville. The cicada itself was long gone, leaving just the shell...

This may appear to be a gratuitous photo of man and beast, however it is in fact a picture of the old redgum stumps that were yanked out.

So with the house all level and stable, we can start thinking about improvements.

  1. Awesome to see your restumping project. My home is going to need a restumping here in the next few months. Just wanted to know what I was getting myself into before we actually started. Thanks for all the great pictures. http://jhconstruction.com.au/about_us.php

  2. How high did you end up lifting the floors in the house? I have always wondered how that is possible because the home is so much weight. I guess if you had some power tools and machines, you could get the job done. You would have to be careful to not break that part of the house. http://www.earthwormrestumping.com.au
